Laid down on 1 December 1913 F1 was launched on 31 March 1915 by Lady Callaghan.
During the years 1915 to 1918, F1 served out of Harwich Dover and Yarmouth. From 1918 to 1919 she operated from Portsmouth.
1918 to 1919 she was used as a training boat at Campletown.
